With its closely coordinated engineering/manufacturing team coupled with comparatively low overhead, Powercon is consistently and significantly more competitive in its pricing than all other leading U.S. Manufacturers of similar type equipment. Effective production control techniques insure that Powercon is able to offer significantly faster delivery than its competitors. Additionally, where necessary, we are often in a position to advance or adjust delivery schedules to accommodate customer needs.
Powercon's modern switchgear facilities include production machinery, most of which is computer controlled.
We produce all of our own steel structures and weldments. Equipment assembly is done entirely at our facility with many pieces of the equipment tied together through a direct numerical control network. Subcontracting is primarily limited to the purchasing of components, with circuit breakers and protective relays making up the higher dollar volume.
Metal-Clad and Metal-Enclosed equipment application requirements have ranged from a single cubicle cell to lineups containing many load break air interrupter switches and/or vacuum breakers. Since Powercon is a custom equipment supplier, there is no limit of equipment configurations that can or have been supplied.
Our custom designed equipment is manufactured in accordance with ANSI C37.20; that in itself is an advantage. As we are sensitive to our customer's particular configuration of features, we do not force product line "Company Standards" onto the customer. The breadth of our switchgear product lines have design features including all copper bus, 11 gauge sheet steel throughout and porcelain insulators in all bus paths to ground for voltages above 5kV. Our main strength is heavy duty, high quality equipment built to customer specifications.

Research and Development at Powercon is focused primarily on Applied Engineering projects. Several examples included ground and test devices for vacuum breaker cells, load break interrupter switches, draw out 38kV vacuum circuit breakers, Metal-Clad switchgear and group operated high current disconnect switches.
All of Powercon's equipment whether it be standard or custom is produced to the customer's specifications and delivery schedule. Shipping splits are adjusted to accommodate field installation with many special maintenance features added to comply with the service requirements for the particular customer's switchgear.

Powercon Products Powercon is well-known for it's quality products and ability to produce standard switchgear, customized switchgear, and specialized control systems to meet specific requirements. Follow the links below for more information on specific products. Metal Clad Switchgear ? Powercon's advanced Metal Clad Switchgear line is completely factory-built and wired. Each cubicle may contain the circuit breaker, bus bars, primary and secondary disconnecting devices, instrument transformers, instruments and relays, secondary wiring and more. The switchgear is designed so that additional circuit breakers or auxiliary cubicles may be added in the future. Metal-Enclosed Interrupter Switchgear (MEIS) ? Powercon's MEIS Switchgear exceeds ANSI/IEEE Standard C37.20.3, with no exceptions taken to any requirement of the ANSI/IEEE. These switches are available with either electrical or mechanical operators. When used in conjunction with fuses they will afford overload, short circuit and disconnect services. This switchgear is used: On the primary of transformers for their protection and isolation. For the protection and isolation of single circuit systems. For the protection and isolation of multi-circuit systems. For automatic transfer schemes where their ratings are not exceeded. Metal-Enclosed Bus Systems ? Powercon offers our customers complete system integration and responsibility. We also manufacture 5kV-38kV Bus Duct which can connect various line-ups of switchgear together or can be used as a connection between Powercon Switchgear and power transformers as shown. Our Bus Duct has been designed tested to verify compliance to A.N.S.I. Standards. Climatized Enclosures ? The PowerControl Complex may be installed in many environments - deserts where the temperature may rise as high as 135?F with humidity of 90% or in cold areas where the temperature may go as low as -40?F. Recently, more complex requirements have included refrigerators, work benches, water fountains, fire detection systems, spare parts storage, emergency lighting, and necessary alarms in case of failures. Seismic requirements for the completely assembled units are now under consideration. Power System Grounding Equipment ? Powercon's high resistance grounded neutral system with traceable signal to fault, is one in which a high-value resistor has been inserted in the neutral connection to ground to limit the resistor current under ground-fault conditions to a value not less than the total system charging current, resulting in a total ground fault current of approximately the square root of 2 times the charging current. Key Interlock Systems ? An interlock system is a series of key interlocks applied to associated equipment in such a manner as to allow operation of the equipment only in a prearranged sequence. Interlocks are applicable to practically any field wherein human life or property is endangered, by an improper operation or improper sequence of operations. The Powercon Key Interlock System is a simple, easy method of applying individual key interlock units and assemblies to electrical switchgear assemblies requiring operation in predetermined sequence. Match and line-up to existing equipment WITHOUT transition sections AND maintain breaker interchangeability.
