Proprietorship Firm Since 1985
Buzz Audio was formed in 1985 by Tim Farrant to provide Professional Audio services, an area lacking in New Zealand at that time, especially in areas of acoustic design, technical installation and importantly, the correct integration of hardware/ software/acoustics to real world user environments.
Tim's background in television broadcasting (Avalon Television Studios), A/V production, hi-fi amplifier design, technical installations, and live sound mixing (winner, sound engineer of the year award New Zealand Music Awards) brought together a range of technical skills which provided the solid expertise that Buzz Audio was founded on.
Over the years the reputation of Buzz Audio has grown steadily, with the past and present client list now reading like a "whose who" of New Zealand audio (see below). We have completed some prestigious audio projects and some simple ones, with all projects being given the same professional treatment in order to achieve the desired end result.
Buzz Audio has also ventured into the world of commercial sound, bringing the same level of professionalism to these situations. Projects include paging and background music systems for swimming pool complexes, recreation centres, sound for multi media exhibitions through to full-on sound for bars, sports and night clubs. The design of the PA Series Modular Audio system is aimed directly at these applications enabling full customisation to be achieved without the normal associated cost. Integral to this is the customised manufacture of items by Buzz Audio not available "off the shelf".
With the exposure to recording studios, Tim gained experience as a recording engineer and from this designed new electronics for recording. In 1993 the MA Series Class A microphone preamplifier was first produced and put to use in many studios throughout New Zealand and overseas. In fact the MA-2 was so well received that other products have followed, such as the Farrantec V-2A Valve Head Amplifier. In 2000 the follow up to the MA-2, the MA2.2 True Class Microphone Preamplifier was released and was again extremely well received gathering an enviable reputation as one of the finest microphone preamplifiers on the market for the recording of acoustic guitar.
Buzz Audio has since released the SOC 1.1 Optical Compressor, the SSA1.1 Stereo Source Amplifier, the MIA1.0 Musical Instrument Adapter and the A-Rack 8+1 Modular Recording System. In 2004 we saw the release of our ARC1.1 Analogue Recording Channel and the MPE1.1 Parametric Equalizer and in 2006 we release the DCS2.2 Dual Compressor and the PAR Award winning REQ2.2 Resonance Equaliser. In line with the Buzz tradition, all these products are handmade in-house and tested by Tim before being sent to their new homes. Buzz Audio currently exports to several overseas markets.
